The Community Shop
October 2015
On 3rd February 2014 the Football Club unanimously agreed to allow us to set up a temporary shop and Post Office in the Pavilion Committee Room. A scurry of activity followed to set up accounts with suppliers. Dave donated shelving, his chill cabinet and two freezers which were moved into the Pavilion as soon as Dave shut 'The Shop' for the last time on Saturday 30th March. We opened on Sunday 31st with a few hiccups over milk and papers which were soon resolved. We're now into the start of our 40th week of operation.
There's now over 30 volunteers helping man the shop, helping with the newspapers, taking stock checks and ordering supplies. That's more than 10% of the adult population.
We've also helped two young ladies work towards their Saltire Awards.
We used the Bonus Ball to give a shop voucher as a Christmas present to every pensioner household in the village.
The first ever Embo calendar was produced with photographs donated by Alexander Macdonald.
Iain Carlton orchestrated our 2016 & 2017 calendars.
William Hamilton has created a Facebook page for the shop - take a look to see what bargains are on offer this week.
We're confident the shop will succeed as long as the volunteers are happy to continue!
The Post Office service is available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9.30am - 1pm.
